AFP: Bell Canada to cut 2,500 management jobs: "The job cuts represent roughly 15 percent of the firm's white-collar employees and 6.0 percent of the total work force, said the publicly traded company, which is in the process of being taken private.
The new BCE president and chief executive, George Cope, has already slashed his management team by a third after taking up his position two weeks ago.
The restructuring was expected to generate 300 million Canadian dollars (294 million US) in annual cost savings, BCE said.
'We are moving forward with a streamlined management structure that brings everyone at Bell closer to the customer and allows us to compete more effectively,' said Cope, who also is president and CEO of Bell Canada."
